AFRICA I-STORIES

I first went to Ghana in 1996.
I traveled from Accra thru Kumasi, Kintampo, and Sunyani
to Tamale in the Northern Region in search of a village named Zion.
5 years later I named my son Zion.

My daughters and I lived in Ghana for over a year at One Africa Guest House
in the village of Itrea in Elmina, Bordering Cape Coast in the Central Region.
I also lived in Greater Accra Region.

The Beauty and Calm of this Spiritual Land had me overwhelmed.
Going through the Slave Dungeons and physically touching the walls sent the shivers down my spine.
But I must have been one of the strongest in order to return thru the door of no return.

I have travelled to Ghana more than 8 times since.
Ghanaians are very welcoming and hospitable, but do not take their kindness for granted.

I feel so at home when am in Ghana.
The fresh Coconut Water, Tilapia Fish,
Yam Chips, Pounded Yam and Groundnut Soup.
Of course Role Model’s Steam Cabbage and Fried Dumplings.
The Beautiful Beaches, sun shining and cool cool breeze.
Reggae Night on the La-Badi Beach.

Chill out in the day time at Akloma Village and full joy The Reggae Cultural Evenings.
Spend the day at Shining Beach playing Ballgames
and reasoning with the Brothers and Sisters.
Check out the Art Center for all your Cultural Hand Made Arts and Crafts.
Reggae day and night, at Hill Rise Jamaica Club with Jah Marcus & family.
                             AKWAABA      AKWAABA     AKWAABA
Just forward to the mother land with I n I for a true Cultural Experience.
No Hype, just 2 weeks of relaxation and re-tracing some of our I Story.

Nov. 30th to Dec 14th

Love Love and More Love.

ii ones and all:

My name is Ricardo artist name Role model, and last year Dec, 09 I an I take the up liftment journey to Africa with Mama Ashaki and her son Zion. There I met some great friends, such as Jah Marcus known here in the UK for his outstanding work, producing music and sound system, alongside The Hill Rise club, which is now situated in Ghana.   Koko Shanty, born Ghanaian was another Rasta who welcome I an I to the fullest & I an I being a brother  from the far far land, they show I  the up most respect and honor  and give I an I inspiration to return home to the mother land. I was also told in many conversations that I an I must tell ones and all of the beauty of Africa. “Africa awaits its children”. There I take the opportunity to visited many places and saw a lot of things but the most outstanding one being the trip to the Cape Castle, in there were the dungeons, I was so shocked to see how our ANCESTORS suffered. Many never came out alive as they were beaten, rape and starved to death, this gave me a greater finding within myself to know even though they never made it they done it so we could, with a greater strength. But don’t let it scare you from making the journey, I done it and feel so much better knowing that I Ricardo Morris made the journey home to the mother land. Make it your own experience there is so much for you to learn. Me telling you is not going to free your burden, you have to do it to feel it.  As we all mostly travel to the Caribbean and other countries for vacation mainly for the sunshine, beach and partying, but it’s all right there where we are going. And don’t think Africa is boring! NO WAY! Let I tell u something, its BEBBLE...! Hot sun, beaches, Live Reggae shows, clubs u name it, its happening!

Destinations and planned places to see
In the following information are the places in which we wish to visit these places are not compulsory to your visit and you are a free person at all times. These trips won’t take place everyday there will be days when you can do and go where you wish. But these are just some of the places which offer a chance for you to see the real ‘roots’.

ACCRA: Accra is the capital and largest city of Ghana, a country in West Africa. It is the administrative, communications, and economic centre. Located on the southern coast, this is a pleasant city filled with diverse culture, music, casinos and beaches. Most foreign visitors, including our participants, arrive in Ghana at Kotoka Airport in Accra.

Sightseeing & Activities: Accra offers a wide range of entertainment and a large selection of African and international restaurants, bars, clubs and casinos. A few minutes’ drive from Accra is Labadi beach which usually has a variety of activity with dancers and performers.
Accra also has many forts, museums, colorful markets and colonial era shops. The fishing port of Jamestown, complete with a fort and whitewashed lighthouse is a nice day trip. Close by are the Aburi Botanical gardens which offer a fantastic range of indigenous and exotic trees, as well as many birds and butterflies.

KUMASI: Kumasi is the second largest city in Ghana, with over 1.5 million people. Located in the Ashanti Region, Kumasi takes about four hours to reach from Accra. Kumasi is on the regular tourist circuit along with Accra and Cape Coast. The Kumasi area is dominated by the Ashanti tribe, for whom the city holds a special place in their history: It was here that Okomfo Anokye received the Golden Stool, an embodiment of the soul of the Ashanti nation. The city is a mix of urban and a laidback atmosphere, especially on the outskirts of the city.

CAPE COAST: Cape Coast is located 165 kilometers west of Accra on the Gulf of Guinea. The drive from Accra to Cape Coast is about two hours, depending on traffic leaving Accra. Cape Coast is the capital of the Central Region and was the center of British Administration until 1877 when the capital was moved to Accra. Most of the oldest and best schools in Ghana are in Cape Coast.

Sightseeing & Activities: Most tourists in Ghana visit the Cape Coast Castle, a former slave castle and one of the country's best-organized historical museums. The castle was originally controlled by the Portuguese, Swedes, Danes, and Dutch, before the British took over. With each occupation, the castle was enlarged both in terms of slave exporting capacity and military defence. The museum is informative in a variety of ways regarding tribal culture and slavery. Although a daunting subject, it is well worth the visit regarding learning the history of slave culture in this region.

Accommodation
ACCRA
Upon our arrival in Ghana we get to Accra the countries capital city. Here we are planning to stay for our first week, and is where we plan to accommodate you at Jah Marcus beach house which is currently under renovation but fingers crossed it will be finished by time we reach there!  But, we have seeked an alternative place to stay just in case. A place called Ghana villas situated just 10 minutes drive from the airport and 20-25 minutes to the beach. There are three properties available shown in the photos are below. Properties 1 & 2 are 3 bedroom homes, based on 6 people sharing, and costs around £14 per person per night and property 3 is a 4 bedroom house based on 8 people sharing, costing around £12 per person per night.  A rough price guide to accommodation in these areas, are in the region of £45 - £75 per night depending on the standard of accommodation, so you will find that this is very reasonable and these homes have all the amenities we require – A/C, hot water and cooking facilities.
